How to use this blog

I am disabling posting on other pages and will just use them for information.  Please make any posts in the "player post" section.  This should make it easier for everyone to find new posts and hopefully keep it fairly organized.  Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
William

  4. Hello William,

Giving you some free thoughts about what I like in RPG's.

Hit locations by not too complex. I just like to know where I have been hit to visualize it.
Quirks, advantages and disadvantages when rolling up characters helps.
Criticals like Warhammer are fun. Rolling a critical and roll damage and if you rolled a 6 on 1d6 you roll again and so on.
Have you thought about racial animosities? The dwarf and Elf is fun but what about human and Dwarf hated of Elves for running out on the world?
I would also like to see other races that survived but were affected by the invasion. (Gobliniods, orcs giants etc.)
I like magic that you can cast all combat. Not you cast one spell and you are out of that spell.
Fate points It is a great way to get a do over for a stupid mistake.
I also think the new warhammer cards or advantages with party themes are good. (ie the outlaws, the do gooders, etc.)
Those are just a few things I was thinking.
Send me the excel spreadsheet when you can. Thanks

    1. Thanks for the feedback, it is really GREATLY appreciated.

The hit locations will be in eventually, not sure if I will have them done at start of gameplay, but I am building around this

Quirks are in already, and I think that the advantages and DA will be covered pretty much by just the quirk system, this will also affect critical hits, so quirks will likely not be permenant.

Racial animosity will not be in by design, but you are correct that individuals will have some opinions on the cowardace of the elves or the forward thinking and protection of their culture

There are definately other races that survived, for now they are and will be consider monster races, so not playable as characters. Rest assured that there are orcs, and a term called chromats that refers to all green skined non-social groups

Spells will be recastable without having to learn a set number, but you will only have a set number of spells you can cast so you will run out on longer combats, think of it kind of like spell points but much less complex

fate points are not something I have considered, tell me why you think they add to the game. I have a few mechanics that will work like them, but nothing that powerful. Make a case and I will see if they will work.

I have a reputation system in developement, but I do not have something as blatent as the cards, if you want to be more specific about what you like about them I will see if I can work it into what I am building

I will send you the spread sheet probably on sunday, I need to cut some stuff out and make it more player friendly. There are several things in it I want to keep a surprise currently.

I would love some feedback on what you think of character classes,
skills that you like or hate,
what your favorite thing about gaining a level is,
what your least favorite thing about rpg in general
what you think of money systems and whether you like an economy to be realistic or whether you just want fixed pricing and the like
      thoughts on scarcity of resources
what do you like that is challenging in character developement
what you never even think of when playing
what you wish you didn't have to keep track of (hit points, money, consumables, rations, amunition)
what you like to keep track of (ibid)
what single thing (besides seeing friends) you really like about playing rpgs
do you like easy access to buying magic or should it always be found,
anything else you can think of to describe your ultimate experience in playing.

  5. Love the stories and background.

Some bsic answers to your above questions...

I like skills that are useful in the game and are not a min max issue. I hate for a bard to have tons of skills that are evened out , but he never gets to use them becaus someone else has maxed out a skill or 2 and makes him useless.

Gaining a level I like to see a huge change in my character. Not jsut a few extra hit points. Slow down the leveling, but make it significant.

Least favorite... Getting stuck in a situation where we dont know what direction to take.

Money has never been important to me, Items are more valuable to me.

Scarcity of resources makes you spen too much time trying to find fire wood or dinner and takes away from adventuring.

Character development always seems to be different in the DM's mind than what is in the players mind. A way to keep each other up to date on our thoughts and directions.

keeping track of party treasure always falls into someones hands and gets lost or mixed up.

The roleplaying aspect of gaming is my favorite. I like it when I get done playing and have a vivid image in my mind of what the enviroment we just adventured in. ie, a dark and gloomy dungeon that had water dripplets running down the walls and you could only hear the silence as you open a door to see....

MAgic items should always be found/given from the DM. I hate buying magic items. I do not like to min/max and buying items kind of points you in that direction.

  6. This is a big topic but I think we are on similar pages:

I am trying to create a system that cannot be min maxed easily (easily is the key, I hope people make people and not the thing that needs to be made). What that means is that I hope that this system will allow you all to make warriors, and not feel liek you need to go hire a cleric. Yes you will not be all balanced, but you will not be "deficited".

Well disappointingly the leveling system is going the opposite way of what you like, you will be "leveling" more quickly, but your power will grow more slowly....Keep in mind this ia BETA TESTING

Okay getting stuck without direction is my biggest soft point, I will try not to get stuck in it

Money in this game I think will be important, but skills will have more value so there will be a bit of a barter system for you

I will be putting more focus on the fire wood, we will have to play test it, your feedback will be very important here

Party treasure is not my issue, you will need to assign a better record keeper (Some things you guys are going to have to take care of, but I will try not to get overly accountant on you)

Roleplaying in my opinion is 90% of the players and 10% of the GM, my goal is for players to stop thinking about their abilities and start thinking about their character. My biggest complaint about 4th addition is that it takes the role playing away from the game (see my convo with Darin).

In this world you will either have to create your magic items, or find them. That is not to say that someone might not have something they don't understand for sale, but there will be no magic item markets. But don't dispair completely if you like magic bizzars, there is one more thing at work which you dont yet know.
